Hospitality is an ever-evolving consumer experience. At one end of the spectrum, people crave nostalgia and ‘classic’ dining experiences. Then on the other end of the spectrum, you have the futuristic restaurants, pushing the boundaries between technology and gastronomy, giving consumers an assault on the senses.
But what does the future hold for the industry? At Saturn Projects, we put our thinking caps on and highlighted some consumer trends that we think will become a big part of the way we eat in the future.
Automation
With COVID-19 potentially being a catalyst for this, a more automated dining experience may be a bit of a thrill for a tech-savvy restaurant goer. The thought of a meal being cooked in front of you by a robot might sound like your idea of hell, but also would thrill many. We predict that ‘robot chefs’ will soon be more commonplace that you think. You have already got robot bartenders created by Makr Shakr, so it won’t be too long before you see this new trend taking off.
Technology
Technology will soon become a major part of our dining experience. Using virtual reality, and augmented reality, the possibilities are almost endless. As technology advances, and it becomes clearer, thinner, better, and more refined, it is plausible that the likes of VR could take you to another world whilst you eat your meal. Imagine having a steak and chips whilst on a rocket to Mars.
Convenience
Technology has made things convenient for the consumer, so much so, that it has started to become the expected. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses had to adapt, and adapt quickly, meaning that restaurants needed to make online ordering, contactless delivery methods and much more. Consumers have gotten used to this level of convenience, and we believe that this will continue to evolve in the future.
So, there you have it, some future predictions based on what we have seen happening over the past few years in the hospitality industry. The team at Deloitte have put together a detailed review of a recent study that is certainly worth a read if you are interested in the future of this awesome industry.
